If you don’t have access to a smart meter, there are still ways to monitor your energy usage so that it can be compared with other providers.
While tracking your energy usage with a meter reader isn’t as convenient as having access through electronic devices, it can still be effective at giving insight into how much electricity is being consumed at different times throughout the day. If someone from the utility company comes by once every two months or so (or whatever frequency is preferred), they will read out loud their findings to all those present during their visit. This gives everyone an idea about what kinds of figures have been used over recent weeks/months - thus allowing them to determine whether prices may have changed recently enough for them to warrant changing providers too!
Understand your contract
The first step to understanding your contract is to take a look at the terms and conditions in your energy agreement. This will tell you how much you pay, when you pay, what you are paying for, and other important details about your contract.
Ask questions if there is anything that doesn’t make sense or needs clarification! Your energy provider should be able to provide an answer within 24 hours at most – but if they can’t figure out an answer on their own (or don’t want to), maybe it’s time for another provider? In some cases, contacting the Ombudsman may help resolve any issues around your contract or service charges before they cause problems down the road. Any disruption in your service should also be promptly addressed.
